Course Description

COVID-19 created an unprecedented economic crisis that accountants were called upon to triage and stop continued economic bleeding. Accountants had to help many business owners and colleagues make difficult business decisions that often went well beyond finance. In this workshop, we’ll take a look at the “new normal” and the multi-faceted role that accountants play in economic triage and the building of business resiliency.

We’ll explain how core accountant skills like risk management and financial planning & analysis—and their supporting technologies—combine with our core competencies of ethics and objectivity to play critical roles in driving better business decision-making. Better business-decision-making and business continuity planning enable more business agility and holistic business solutions—creating a more resilient business that can quickly pivot when the next pandemic occurs.

This workshop will feature the following topics from thought leaders in the profession:

  • Rick Richardson CPA, CITP, CGMA - Life and technology post-COVID-19

  • Donny Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA - How Accountants Can Help Build Business Resilience

  • Jennifer Elder, CSP, CPA - Surviving, Pivoting and Thriving in the New Normal

  • Steve Player, CPA - Scenario Planning for Future Readiness; Steve Player, CPA

There will also be two hours of virtual group work to help you practice applying the lecture concepts so that you leave the workshop ready to utilize the learning in your organization or with clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the multi-faceted, “new normal” of the role that accountants play in economic triage

  • Recall how accounting skills like risk management and financial analysis are critical

  • Determine how accountants can help build business resilience
